Here are a few of the numerous recognition messages we received following our community involvement.
April 2010 - Spud! Teacher's pet - Local Hero Winner Kathy Matak
Here is the email nomination received for Kathy - "She is a private investigator, single mom, takes in cats and dogs that need homes, feeds the birds and grows her own organic food in her 33' lot! In fact she has started planting on her street boulevard in Burnaby (which is a new idea in her area) due to the avaiable sun in that area. I find her an amazing woman. She found gardening one way in which to find solace and calm in her chaotic world. Oh did I mention that she also volunteers in the community and is a local moderator for SFU Philosophers Cafe? But the best thing about her gardening is that every year those of us lucky enough to know her get marvelous and tasty Christmas gifts. This was blueberry jam, fig jam, cherry jam, and spicy herbed vinegars - her logo is handpicked, handpeeled, and handmade! She is a great lady and really deserves some recognition for her attempt to convert all of us into healty eating."
Congrats Kathy for everything you do for your community! You are an inspiration to those around you, keep up the good work.
